The break-ins occurred in Garden City between Dec. 10 and Dec. 20, 2024, with the suspects forcing their way through sliding doors and windows, Nassau County Police said.

Once inside, the group stole cash and jewelry before fleeing in luxury SUVs, according to police. In one case, they burglarized a Brook Street residence, stealing jewelry and $1,000 in cash, police said.

They were seen leaving in a BMW X5 with New Jersey plates, which was captured on Garden City’s license plate readers, police said.

In another incident, a Pine Street home was targeted, but an alarm scared off the suspects before they could steal anything, according to police.

The following defendants were arrested Thursday, Feb. 27, when NYPD officers stopped them for a traffic violation:

  • Sergio Rodriguez-Lopez, 36, of Flushing, Queens
  • Adolfo Montes-Gomez, 40, of Garden City
  • Brandon Montano, 29, of Flushing, Queens
  • Stephen Montenegro, 42 of Jamestown

The defendants were arrested as they drove back from Danbury, Connecticut, where they are suspected in another burglary, police said. All four now face multiple counts of burglary.

The group is believed to be part of the South American Theft Group, a network known for targeting upscale homes, according to police. More investigations are ongoing in Suffolk County and Danbury, Connecticut.
